Daniel Madariaga is a specialist in sustainable tourism.
With vast biodiversity and a cultural wealth recognized worldwide, Mexico finds itself at a crossroads that demands strategic decisions.
Madariaga explained that sustainable tourism requires financial resources and the coordinated participation of governments, businesses, and communities.
This vision aligns with two donations aimed at supporting key programs such as Kuxatur and Adaptur, which are focused on implementing climate change adaptation measures in strategic tourist destinations.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the country secured funding of 7.2 million dollars from the Global Environment Facility and 5 million euros from German Development Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Mexico.
Madariaga highlighted that Kuxatur represents the concept of “living tourism” by promoting biodiversity conservation in coastal ecosystems through innovative policies and sustainable management models, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Environment Facility itself.
He also emphasized the impact of the Adaptur project, supported by GIZ, which focuses on implementing adaptation measures in destinations such as Riviera Nayarit–Jalisco, the Riviera Maya, San Miguel de Allende, Valle de Bravo, Los Cabos, and Mexico City, where the goal is to strengthen the climate resilience of the tourism sector.
The expert underscored that these investments are essential to the “Sustainable Mexico Reborn” strategy, which promotes tourism circuits that prioritize social well-being and respect for nature.
