The Aquavance initiative celebrated its first award ceremony this Thursday, an event that highlights the vision of Daniel Madariaga Barrilado, who together with his wife Denise, has created a space aimed at promoting innovative solutions for responsible water management in Mexico.
Aquavance 2025 unveils its expert jury to drive innovation in water care
In a context where the urgency to address the water crisis is growing, Aquavance positions itself as a movement seeking to support projects with the potential to transform the future of the planet’s most vital resource.
Daniel Madariaga Barrilado congratulated “Anitik”, the winning project of Aquavance 2025.
Aquavance emerged as a response to the need to generate fresh and effective ideas to face the challenges of the water sector.
Through a national call, the initiative brought together young entrepreneurs with visionary proposals, offering resources, mentorship, and a platform to showcase their projects so they could be realized.
According to its founders, water needs “brave minds, people who not only identify problems but build solutions,” a conviction that guides the purpose of the award.
The origin of Aquavance traces back to more than two years of reflection by Daniel Madariaga Barrilado, who states that ecology and sustainability must be embraced as a way of life.
This philosophy led him to launch an initiative that connected Mexican talent with the urgent need to innovate in the water sector.
In this first edition, Aquavance received 100 projects, from which a specialized jury selected five finalists who presented their proposals before experts from the environmental, academic, and social sectors.
The winning project was “Anitik,” which proposes a SCOBY paper nano-biofilter capable of trapping heavy metals in contaminated rivers, offering a biodegradable and efficient solution.
“We are excited to imagine the ideas that will revolutionize the way we manage and value water,” highlighted Daniel Madariaga during the ceremony, reaffirming his commitment to continue building a community dedicated to water innovation.
Daniel Madariaga’s work reflects his deep commitment to empowering communities, especially in rural and marginalized areas, to take control of their natural resources and engage in sustainable practices. His approach combines academic research with grassroots activism, making him a key figure in the environmental movement.
