As part of Aquatech Mexico 2026, Daniel Madariaga Barrilado, founder of Aquavance and a member of Aquatech, highlighted that Mexico faces one of its greatest water challenges in the inefficiency of water use in the agricultural sector and pointed out that the industry must promote solutions that make it possible to reduce losses and increase water reuse.

During an interview, Madariaga explained that a considerable amount of the water allocated to agricultural irrigationis lost due to inefficient systems, which is why he considered it necessary to develop technologies and models capable of optimizing consumption and facilitating the reuse of the resource.

The businessman also pointed out that one of the main challenges for the industry is finding alternatives that, in addition to working technically, are economically sustainable.
In this regard, he proposed the need to combine innovation, investment, and new management strategies to address the growing pressure on water resources.
Regarding the future of the sector, Madariaga identified artificial intelligence as one of the technologies that will become increasingly relevant in the coming years.
He explained that its applications already make it possible to advance in leak detection, water capture, and reuse, although he acknowledged that artificial intelligence itself faces a challenge due to the high water consumption required by some of its processes.
Madariaga also highlighted the importance of Aquatech Mexico as a space to promote innovation and generate agreements within the industry.
In his view, the event makes it possible to connect regulators, investors, users, and technology specialists, with the aim of exchanging perspectives and building more comprehensive solutions.
Aquatech Mexico 2026 will take place from September 1 to 3, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Centro Banamex, where representatives from the water sector will analyze the industry’s main challenges and opportunities.
