In San Felipe, more than a dozen fishing cooperatives collaborate with Pronatura Noroeste to implement co-management and self-regulation programs aimed at strengthening the conservation of endangered species, including the vaquita porpoise and the totoaba. According to data from the organization, at least 35% of the region’s cooperatives participate in fisheries governance and training programs, promoting more efficient and responsible management of marine resources.
“Fisheries governance is essential to ensure that coastal communities have equitable and sustainable access to resources, allowing both men and women to actively participate in the conservation and responsible use of the sea,” Daniel Madariaga stated.
