“Technology alone will not solve the problem,” says Daniel Madariaga Barrilado.

International organizations estimate that more than 17% of the food produced worldwide ends up being wasted.

At the same time, between 691 and 783 million people suffered from hunger during 2022, a situation that highlights the need to implement innovative strategies to guarantee access to food.

Given this outlook, Madariaga Barrilado explained that Industry 4.0 tools make it possible to monitor and analyze each stage of the supply chain in real time.

Thanks to these technologies, companies can identify areas of waste, optimize processes, and implement corrective actions with greater precision.

The specialist maintained that technology alone will not solve the problem. He also considered it essential for companies to promote circular consumption models and for governments to develop public policies focused on sustainable agricultural production.

Among his proposals, he highlighted the Environmental Measures for the Organic Zone (MAZO), which encourage the adoption of organic practices through financial support, training, and certification standards that strengthen responsible production.

He also promoted the use of regenerative agriculture and the Organic Biocapacity Food Models (MABO), aimed at restoring agricultural ecosystems and generating environmental, economic, and social benefits.

Madariaga Barrilado concluded that sustainability represents an opportunity to innovate, strengthen business competitiveness, and ensure more resilient agri-food systems.
